Walking & Hiking Around Can Negrell and Vidreres

Can Negrell is set on a beautiful 25-acre private estate, with several walking paths starting right at your doorstep. Just beyond the grounds lies the vast Caulès nature reserve, covering over 300 hectares of unspoiled Mediterranean landscape — perfect for long, quiet walks where you’re more likely to meet a wild boar than another human.

One particularly scenic route follows the Riera de Llobet, a seasonal stream that winds gently through the forest. Along the way, you’ll come across the Pantans d’en Llobet — a series of small forest reservoirs that feel like hidden gems. This trail can lead you all the way to Vidreres, making it a perfect nature walk with a village reward at the end (and possibly a café con leche).

For those craving a bit of history with their hike, a rewarding detour leads up to the ruins of Sant Iscle Castle, a medieval fortification perched dramatically on a wooded ridge. The castle dates back to at least the 12th century and once served as a strategic lookout over the surrounding valleys. Though now in ruins, the remnants of towers and stone walls still whisper stories of feudal Catalonia and shifting powers between local lords and the Crown of Aragon.

You can actually spot the silhouette of the castle from the garden of Can Negrell — especially around sunset, when the last light hits the stone. Walking up to the site offers not only a journey into history but also breathtaking panoramic views over the forests, hills, and the village of Vidreres below.
