In October you see in the forest around Can Negrell many Catalans walking with a wicker basket, they are looking for mushrooms. Mushroom hunting is not without danger every year people die from poisonous mushrooms. There are about 1200 mushroom species in Spain, of which a small number of them is poisonous. That is why it is always advisable to be well informed about the characteristics of different mushrooms. Some very edible mushrooms are very similar to their extremely deadly counterparts. A very popular mushroom in Spain is the tasty russula (el níscalo), which is very easily identified with its red-orange and flattened hat.
